to be. All that I can say on that

is that the suggestion, which you

made in conversation on the 4th of

February, for the combination of the

Prisons Departments of Kenya and

Uganda, is being considered but that

it has not yet been put officially

to the two Governors. It is clear,

therefore, that no decision is

likely to be reached on it for some

considerable time to come, and I

am afraid that it would not be

possible to hold over the selection

for the Hong Kong appointment until

the question of the amalgamation of

Prisons Departments in East Africa

has been settled.

FURTHER ACTION.

I should be grateful if

you would let me know as soon as

you can whether you wish to be

considered with other candidates

for the vacancy in Hong Kong.
